Before embarking on the journey, we had a
demonstration on the bee-drill. After that, we continued our way, through the
forest. After walking for a while, the navigator realised that we were lost!
But we managed to get back on track after setting our map right again. Then we
headed for our first checkpoint. We had a little rest over there while waiting for
our sec 3 Scouts, who took a longer and tougher route. Then we set off to the second
checkpoint which is where the toilets are, so that the hikers can refill their water
bottles. When all was done, it was near to lunch hour so we quickened our
pace. We had our lunch on a summit between Pierce reservoir and MacRitchie
reservoir. It was meant to be a test taking session for our sec 1s on outdoor
cooking, but sad to say, only some managed to pass. After lunch, we made our way
down and to Bukit Timah we go. We sang songs and cheered along the way, to keep our
morale high. And after 2 to 3 hours, we finally reached the foot of Bukit
Timah hill. Sensing tiredness among the hikers, we allowed them to vote whether to
continue our way up to the summit or to end our hike. To my surprise, almost all
were willing to continue. Well, one for all and all for one, we got everyone up on
their feet and onwards we went. After our photo taking session on the summit, we set
back down to the visitor center. It was time to go home. Although this hike
was physically challenging for them, the morale of the boys and girls was high, which
indirectly act as a morale booster for the leaders. This is the first time we are
embarking on a hike of such distance and we set to cover longer distances in year 2001. |
